A Loyola student was killed in a motorcycle accident in Oakland County, Michigan Aug. 23.
Sofia Vega, 20, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, according to an email from Loyola Campus Ministry to Loyola students, faculty and staff. Vega was a sophomore at Loyola, studying in the Quinlan School of Business.
According to a GoFundMe page set up to cover the costs of Vega’s medical treatment, Vega and her father were both injured in the crash, which left Vega in “severe critical condition” with a brain injury that forced doctors to remove part of her skull.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department couldn’t immediately provide more details of the crash, but Vega received treatment at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Michigan, according to the GoFundMe page.
The GoFundMe page raised over $3,900 as of time of publication. Services will be held in Texas, according to the email.
