Fresh off its March Madness run, the Loyola men’s basketball team was picked to win the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Thursday morning.
The Ramblers received 29 out of 43 possible first-place votes in the poll, which was voted on by coaches, school information directors and members of the media. Redshirt senior guard Clayton Custer was named MVC Preseason Player of the Year after winning Player of the Year honors last season.
Redshirt senior guard Marques Townes and sophomore center Cameron Krutwig were both named second-team preseason All-MVC.
The Ramblers won the MVC last year for the first time in school history. In the NCAA Tournament, Loyola won its first three games over University of Miami, University of Tennessee and University of Nevada on last-second shots en route to its first Final Four appearance since 1963.
Loyola is scheduled to play an exhibition game against Winona State University at Gentile Arena Oct. 23 before opening the regular season against University of Missouri-Kansas City at home Nov. 6.
