Loyola officially named Carly Werwie its new head women’s golf coach in a press release Thursday morning.

Werwie spent the last two seasons as a women’s golf graduate assistant at Carthage College. While there, she led recruiting as the Lady Reds finished as back-to-back College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin runners-up.

Werwie will replace Carly Schneider, who left the program in May after the team finished fifth at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship — it’s highest finish at the tournament.

Schneider’s departure was the result of a decision to “make a change in [the program’s] structure,” according to a statement from Loyola Athletics.

Werwie played collegiate golf at University of Wisconsin from 2007-11 and is fourth on the all-time school leaderboard with a 77.27 stroke average. She was named Wisconsin Women’s Player of the Year in 2008 and played on the Ladies Professional Golf Association Symetra Tour — formerly known as the Futures Tour — for three years.

The Ramblers are expected to return seven golfers to the roster next season, including All-MVC senior Elayna Bowser.
