Loyola sophomore guard Lucas Williamson could be out for the season after re-injuring his right hand, according to head coach Porter Moser.
In a conference call with all 10 Missouri Valley Conference coaches and members of the media, Moser said Williamson will be further evaluated and will likely need surgery on his hand. He added he didn’t know how long Williamson would be sidelined at the time of the call.
“He’s going to be out for a while, if not the season,” Moser said. “For him, I think surgery’s imminent … there’s a chance he can get back … but we’ll know more later today about the timetable.”
Williamson missed eight games after suffering the initial injury in Loyola’s 69-57 loss to University of Nevada Nov. 27. He returned to the rotation against University of Evansville Jan. 8, then suffered the setback against Indiana State University Jan. 19 and has missed the last two games. In 11 games this season, including 10 starts, Williamson is averaging 8.6 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game, and Moser has also called him Loyola’s “best defender.”
The Ramblers are next scheduled to take on University of Northern Iowa Jan. 30 in the annual “Jesuit Jam” game. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcasted on NBC Sports Chicago+.
